The virtual business model has taken the world by storm. Managers and employees alike are finding that remote work is often seamless, and in the right circumstances and with the right team, can be more productive and efficient than on-site work. Of course as tempting as the idea of a remote company might be for entrepreneurs, there are certain steps that must be taken to help create a top virtual business.

Your website is your first impression: Virtual companies do not have the benefit of storefronts or professional offices to impress new clients. Work on bringing in new customers with a sophisticated, user-friendly website. Underdeveloped websites that look like they were put together in five minutes will never draw attention or increase traffic flow. Your website should be an accurate representation of your business and brand. It should tell customers who you are, what you do and how you can help them. Use photos from your office and of your employees instead of stock images. Use professional writers and keep your content current.

Respect your team members: Remote workers need recognition and rewards just as much as people working from an office. The benefit of working from home does not negate the need for respect. Do your best to connect with employees on a daily basis, offer regular reviews and feedback opportunity, and open a two-way line of communication. Monitor team performance and allow individuals to fill out manager assessments. 

Build strong customer relationships: Making your customers a priority is just as important for a virtual business as it is for any other company. Use mobile business applications to keep in touch with clients as regularly as you can. Encourage customers to get involved in social media endeavors, and tailor your online outreach to the types of companies you deal with.

Virtual business models come with both pros and cons. Make sure you are getting the most out of your remote operation by delivering top-notch customer service and doing right by your employees.
